Dear All, I am the neophyte who understands virtually nothing about Linux,
but whom many of you were kind enough to offer help to, a few weeks ago.
I am still no further ahead with my Suse Linux 9.1 Personal - I feel very
strongly that I simply got a duff copy of the software (I went into the
directories last night to try to see some information at least ( ! ) about the
USB ports, or the modem - and nothing would open, nothing would appear when I
clicked upon the files listing USB's for example, in the directory - likewise
(as I think I shared some weeks back) when I typed
ls /mnt or ls /dev in the command
line, I get a blank window coming up........
Is there anyone who would be willing to share a copy of Suse 9.2 or
Mandrake of recent vintage? (or another version ) with me? From what I read
|Mandrake is more "point & click" than other distros - is this really so,
do you(s) think? ( That would cerainly make it easier and more do-able for
me.....! )
My computer is a compac pentium III built in 2000, a 10 gig hard
drive.........I don't have anything to lose on it because I haven't been able
to put anything INTO it !
I would simply like to have a computer that works (!) - currently I can't
do much more than get my butt kicked playing "Knights" - the Suse Chess game -
............
And if there is anyone who has a half hour to spare in Glesga's West End
and could meet me to help me verify if I'm just a doughball, or if indeed I've
got a bad copy of Linux, would you please get in touch?
Again, sorry to be so unknowing and dense, but I've read about and wanted
to try Linux for about six years and n ow that I've done so, it's really
nothing but nothing - sigh.........it MUST be better than this !
Yours
hopefully,
Paul Birchard
