 *Network Engineer*


   *Networking*

You are employed in the Network team working on all aspects of technical infrastructure support for the Company product and office infrastructure. This includes networking, servers, desktops laptops, communications security and support.

Your role is to assist the Service Manager to deliver reliable and resilient services in support of company goals.


   *Purpose of Job*

   * Work in a team of network engineers in the maintenance, support
     and on going improvement, following industry best practice
     standards of the office and product infrastructure. Ensure that
     quality solutions that meet the company and client requirements
     are available and endeavour to ensure external SLAs are met.
   * Suggest improvement to networking environment and team, toolset
     and the technical architecture of the infrastructure.
   * Feasibility to projects requiring networking.
   * Provide realistic estimates in support of management initiatives
     to win or extend business.
   * Provide technical expertise on relevant technologies and best
     practice to support other team members in areas of specialisation
     as appropriate.
   * Deliver infrastructure to a high standard against industry
     specifications.
   * Coordinate with other members of the team/company with regard to
     technical issues ensure all relevant areas are kept abreast of
     planned changes.

   *Key Responsibilities*

  2. Ensure that all support requests are followed up in a timely
     manner with regular updates to problem raiser on expected
     resolution timescales and/or priority of tasks in relation to
     overall workload.
  3. Provide regular updates to management of network task progress,
     issues and risks.
  4. Responsibility for upkeep and maintenance of the network environment.
  5. Maintain and publish an up-to-date plan for scheduled production
     events, backups reports and maintenance outages.
  6. Review and approve technical specifications written by other
     network staff as required.


 *Ideal Candidate Profile*


   *Academic Qualifications/Experience*

   * At least two years experience with delivering web services with
     high availability.
   * Demonstrable experience with Windows Server and UNIX server platforms.


   *Technical Skills*

   * Windows 2000 / 2003 Server
   * Exchange Server
   * Debian, Ubuntu, SUSE Linux
   * Thorough grounding in diverse network protocols
   * Apache, Tomcat and JBOSS
   * Knowledge of SQL Server advantageous


   *General Skills*

   * Must be a team player with good communications skills
   * Must be prepared to take part in an out-of-hours support rota
