Hi Scrapy users and GSoC students, First, the bad news... Last week on Monday we learned that Scrapy was not accepted as an independent mentoring organisation. We asked for some feedback in #gsoc IRC channel last Friday, and the reason we didn't get in is there simply weren't enough organization slots (and many Python projects) We had great feedback on ideas list though, and we "were in until [gsoc selection] final round."
Now, the good news: That doesn't mean Scrapy is out altogether for GSoC 2014! The Python Software Foundation will be having us under their umbrella this year, along many other great Python projects. See http://pyfound.blogspot.fr/2014/02/python-in-google-summer-of-code-2014.html Running under PSF also means there won't be as many student slots for Scrapy as for an independent org, as the number of slots allotted to PSF has to be shared among all 16 sub-organisations. All Scrapy mentors have registered with PSF and we're waiting for great student applications! There are already many candidates that have introduced themselves to the community through this list or by contacting the mentors from the ideas list. Keep them coming, we love reading them! We'll keep you posted on the number of slots we get in the end. Reminder: students application period starts on March 10 (see http://pyfound.blogspot.fr/2014/02/python-in-google-summer-of-code-2014.htmland https://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/document/show/gsoc_program/google/gsoc2014/help_page ) Good luck to all applicants! /Paul -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "scrapy-users" group.
