I can't comment directly on whether or not your spider will continue to work or not, but here are a few hints that might give you an indication until you either try out the newer version or someone more knowledgeable comes along: - Rename scrapy.spider.BaseSpider to scrapy.spider.Spider (v0.22.0) - Remove multi spider support from multiple core components (v0.20.0) >From what I can gauge from a cursory glance, everything else seems to be non-API breaking (someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm on Arch Linux personally, so can't answer definitively whether or not different versions are supported. However in general, in order to do so, you would have to either install into a different prefix or rename the executable. However, I'd personally recommend using a virtualenv to try out different versions. If you need help doing that, let me know and I'll provide assistance.
