Hi David,

Nice to meet you! To get started you need to select what to work on: check
some ideas in our wiki
https://github.com/scrapy/scrapy/wiki/GSoC-2014-Ideas. If you don't have
lots of experience it is better to aim for "Easy" and "Intermediate"
projects.

If you are new to Scrapy it may be a good idea to follow its tutorial
(http://doc.scrapy.org/en/latest/intro/tutorial.html) and create a small
personal scraping project. It is hard to contribute to a project if you
don't have a use for it. Are you familiar with github, and contributing to
open source overall? Scrapy tutorial has some mistakes in it, so bonus
points for contributing the tutorial fix to scrapy :)

There is a nice picture in PSF GSoC wiki:
http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7290/12525131914_d5054dc0ac_o.png - maybe it
will also help you.
