the livecd runs  with 256Mb ram  ( 512Mb is comfortable ! )
Most of current livecd runs with either cloop or squashfs compression (lzma 
even a bit better) allowing equivalent of 2Gb on disk
If you want more,you can even put on a livedvd -standard 4.5Gb - squashfs
