I've also got the tools set to etch-2008, and I have these files on my system:

/opt/maemo/dists/etch-2008/usr/lib/libfakeroot-sysv.so
/opt/maemo/dists/etch-2008/usr/lib/libfakeroot/libfakeroot-sysv.so
/opt/maemo/dists/etch-2008/usr/lib64/libfakeroot/libfakeroot-sysv.so

So I'm not sure why it can't be preloaded...
