Try this:
$ screen -L -D -m echo 12345
$ cat screenlog.0
2345
As you see, the first character of the actual command output is missing from
the log. Apparently the issue has been present in the sources for quite a
while now, at least since commit 0b70a7c from 2008. So it might well be this
was never correct. It's still present in today's master, 450e8f3.
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnu.screen.user/3760/focus=3763 shows that
others are having this problem as well.
