You might want to check out other cross-compiling environments such as
Buildroot or Freetz for clues on how to proceed. There you might find
patches which you could use or adapt to your needs in order to get it
working for your purpose.

Use http://trac.freetz.org/browser/trunk/make/screen as a starting point.
