Much to my embarrassment, I have just noticed that even when using
xfce4-terminal does the Shift + PageU or Shift + PageDown work. It's
something to do with the contents of /etc/screenrc and $HOME/.screenrc -
something in them screws up xfce4-terminal but not xterm. I don't know
exactly what it is yet.
