Grab your Phillips, it's...
The Latest from The Screwdriver List!
Hey Chief,
There are a few reasons for this problem,
1. The 'optimiser' doesn't understand Windows 98's drive compression,
and therefore it's gone and optimised the 'Physical' drivel, not the
logical one, whilst the compressed volume was mounted - and corrupted it
to high-heaven in the process - say bye-bye to all your data!
2. The 'optimiser' *does* understand the Windows 98 drive compression,
it dismounted the volume before working on the physical drive, and then
crashed. No data is lost, but Windows 98 needs to be told to remount
the drive automagically at startup through the Drive Compression tool.
3. Saying 'during the boot sequence' worries me - id the system drive
compressed, or is it another drive which is compressed. If windows is
loading from the compressed volume, then the 'optimiser' has screwed up
your C:\CONFIG.SYS file, though there is probably a backup called
CONFIG.WIN or CONFIG.OLD on the drive which you could use for recovery
purposes.
For the Fan of Dune (<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>), are/were you using drive
compression on your D Drive? Let me know and I can help further.
Sorry for the delay in my usual reply - I've been 200 miles from my
E-Mail for a few days!!
Cheers,
