Subject: From The Screwdriver List: cable modem experiment

Hello. I downloaded a program called "cable modem upload cap remover" and in
it's instructions it's telling me to get the MAC address of the cable modem,
which should be on the bottom and be something like "000ca1200c9". It's not
on mine. Is this address recoverable by any other means. My upload speeds
are very slow (7-12k) and it was an interesting prospect ( altho probably
against cable rules ). Any input? or advice?

BTW - If you wouldn't post in HTML, it would be easier to read your
messages and get them quoted ...

Most of today's cable systems are using DOCSIS for the transport,
and the cap is applied at the OTHER end of the system, that is, at the head
side.

So, as a result, those uncappers are about as useful as the "$12 of
parts at Radio Shack Cable Descramblers" are - that is, they're a waste of
time and money.
