It seems to be working now -- I shut down all other apps. The challenging point 
seems to be the linking of scribus.

This reminds me of the "old days" when you had to stop all other programs if 
you compiled anything. I've got 2.9 GB of RAM...
One thing I noticed with Fedora 33 is they're now using zram -- I wonder if 
that has something to do with it.
