Tom, I don't think you'll see a difference in loading/scrolling time based on the image type, but resolution will certainly have a large role. I produced two versions of our brochures: one at 100 dpi intended to be sent as .pdf attachments to e-mail messages, and one at 400 dpi to be printed at the local copy shop.
