I don't wish to display my ignorance of the black art of printing, but if you look at http://www.normankoren.com/color_management_2.html it will be apparent that there is more to printing than printers, scribus and postscript. Profiling pays a big part. If was my picture, for my printer, I would fiddle with the image in the Gimp or other image manipulation program so that the result was what I wanted. If the picture was for publication, I would give the image as is to the printer and let them worry about producing the desired results. If the image was for internet distribution, I wouldn't worry cause it will end up in a 1000 incorrectly profiled monitors and printed on a thousand different and probably incorrectly profiled printers with a 1000 different types of paper.
