Hi Murray,

first I have to admit that I never experienced any of those problems
except a performance issue working on "large" documents (>20p.) yet, and
I am working on a 867MHz PPC laptop. That said, I always used the stable
releases, and that is what the scribus developers always tell you to do
in production. It seams strange that a svn snapshot is packaged in a
distribution. So maybe you should contact the package maintainer
directly, who is the only one who knows what code you are working with
(svn means that your code is from a development repository, but we do
not know at which time it was taken).

About the pdf output, it is generated to meet industry standards and
give trouble-free print-outs in a professional environment. This is very
different from producing slim pdfs for the web. So take it as a feature,
there are many ways to get smaller, but potentially incompatible pdfs
out of scribus if needed.

CU Lars.
