any text editor with auto indenting and syntax highlighting will do... for most scripts i have seen up to know, using a "python editor" (or IDE) would have been a bit overkill... basically, you have to be able to open a python file, type text in there, get the correct indents and save it again as python source code. that's not black magic :-) ah, personally, i'm using vim and i can suggest a "beginner friendly" version of it: cream (cream.sourceforge.net/) have fun a.l.e
