I do a two-page weekly 'zine for an apa. I use OpenOffice to enter the text and get the spelling right. Then, I import it into scribus, dropping it into a template to get the basic look right. Last, I go into the story editor apply the appropriate paragraph styles and add italics as needed. I don't use paragraph styles in OOo because I've got them set just the way I like them in scribus, and for me it's a case of KISS. If you need to import files that other people have created, with their own styles, there's an check-box in the Import dialog that allows you to import text only, not the styles.
