Thank you, John.
The partition suggestion is a great idea (and I have my Gentoo laptop which I can work on); however, I do want to see Scribus readily deployed on the desktops of people and friends I work with on outside projects so we can have a uniform system for collaborating. Asking them to do something other than install a windows (or Mac based) program would be too much; even getting them to install a program sometimes takes perserverance. I'd like them to have the latest and greatest, especially with the advent of the scripting engine undergoing a major change. We have a lot of nonprofits in Napa (since there seems to be a lot of wealthy people here) and I think having a uniform engine, e.g. Scribus, for creating content could be a real service to the community, so I'm looking beyond my own needs. By creating an XML punch list, I'd be memorializing a lot of the know-how that escapes documentation. I was meticulously keeping a record of everything I did until I came upon the podofo 0.8.4, I found myself doing all kinds of things to get the project to finally build. That's when I realized there needs to be a database type record of all these variables, and since Scribus is XML based, what better than using an XML project file for a Windows install? For example, I'd like to see the current version of podofo, 0.9.1, integrated or conflicts identified so they can be considered by the Scribus developers. I ended up using projects I thought merited the risk of higher versions, e.g. TIFF and JPEG, that surpassed the versions specified in the instructions in BUILDING_win32_msvc.txt. I have to learn how the outside projects are being vetted by the Scribus developers so I don't go too far out on a limb. -- Email Rider John Laurence Poole P.O.
