Thanks to JLuc, I've been able to add a script, Autoquote2.py to the included scripts for 1.5.0 (it looks like 1.4.3 is only in fix bug mode at this point).
Autoquote2 fixes a problem when a line ended with a quote, so that the correct typographic quote is inserted. He has also added some new features. The default language for dialogs is French, but English is selectable. You can still of course specify many other languages for their type of typographical quotes, as before. You can now specify a space and the kind of space between quotes and the enclosing text, and furthermore, Autoquote2 will if you choose add these spaces for pre-existing typographic quotes. The main reason I added rather than replaced Autoquote.py is to allow time for feedback and make sure it's working in various languages and settings.
