hi martin i don't really get what you are trying to automate.
anyway, from what i understood, the simplest path is probably to export a pdf from scribus and then write a script that creates PNGs from the PDF. In different sizes. i know that this is not what you want to hear but this is probably the simplest thing you can and the one that will give you the best results. have fun a.l.e
