Thank you, you are right!
I did a test, and this way, import does indeed import formatting and styles from LibreOffice quite precisely.

I usually work on shorter text coming from other persons and not a reliable formatting, so that in that case I just need the text withour formatting, and I just copy text into the frame.

This File import feature works quite well (Scribus 1.5.6.1 - Linux - Ubuntu
18.04).
I did not test hyperlinks. My understanding is that one needs to create a link in a frame with the Scribus link tool so that the link will be reflected in the PDF.

On observation on my test: line height is not conveyed correctly, keeping the default value from Scribus.
To correct it, I had to edit the Default Paragraph Style and apply it to the
paragraphs...

Sincerely
Silvain

Hi Silvain,

please try again like this and let us know:

Create a text frame and select it.

Do > file > import > get text

As "Importer" select "ODT Document"
(not OpenOffice Writer Document - this is what I was missing for a long
time)

Accept the defaults (for starters).

The text should now appear inside your text frame with its formatting. I
just tried it again.

On my machine, I can so import odt files including their formatting
(fonts, text-size, bold/regular, etc.). I am running Scribus 1.5.5 on
Windows 10 pro.

Strange...

For me, importing text from LibreOffice into a Scribus text frame copies
text only, no formatting at all.

In some cases, when I have some formatting of a page or block of text
which is easier to do with LibreOffice, I just create the PDF from
LibreOffice and insert the PDF in Scribus :

1. either directly - but the text is converted into curves.
2. either into an image frame as link, better solution

With option 2, display on screen is a bit blurred, but printing is
perfect (providing you check the box "incorporate PDF/EPS, experimental"(1)
And if I have to modify the text, I just modify it in LibreOffice, save
it as PDF, and Sribus file is (nearly instantly) updated.

Of course, it would be nice to be able to import text and retain
italics, title styles, and things of that kind...

(1) I think one could remove the "experimental" and have this option
checked by default, as it works perfectly.

Hi there,

I have a small problem. I usually import odf files into (Scribus
1.5.6.1) text frames, as it is easier to do the necessary formatting
in LibreOffice. I realised, that the URL does not come though - no
problemo -, but the texts disappears, too.

I do not know, if it is an error, or a feature?

Best regards,

Árpád Török
