Welcome to Window-Eyes, Steven.

I don't use the Hotspot app that Steve Nutt recommended. So perhaps that's all you need.

Otherwise if you wish to learn scripting I would recommend the following:
Chip Orange's tutorials on scripting.
https://www.gwmicro.com/App_Central/Developers/Interactive_Classes/
The scripting manual.
Open the Window-Eyes control panel, Alt-H, Documentation, App development reference.
The VBScript reference CHM file.
https://www.sendspace.com/file/37rb2o
Here's the Microsoft MSDN web site if you want to reference it online.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/d1wf56tt(VS.85).aspx

Most of us use VBScript. It's just a slimmed down version of the BASIC programming language. There's endless tutorials out there on it and plenty of Window-Eyes scripts you can look at. First learn how to create a fairly large multi-Dimensional array for time, testing, patience, etc. (smile)

When you say you need to change the highlight color I assume you mean what Window-Eyes sees as the highlight color. To do this do the following. Note, the hot keys I reference are those of the default keyboard layout.
1. Associate a set file with the program.
A. While within the program you're working on open the Window-Eyes control panel with Control-backslash. B. I recommend Alt-H for help and make sure Show advanced options is checked so we're not talking about things you can't find in the control panel. C. Go to and expand the Association node and arrow down to Current association. D. Tab to the Set file edit box and enter the name you wish to use for the set file, e.g. ProgramName.set.
E. Tab to the Association combo-box and choose by class or title.
F. Tab to the Save and Associate button and press space bar.
G. Escape out of the control panel back to your program.

2. Select text and have the cursor on it, then route the mouse to the cursor with numpad Insert-Plus. You can move the mouse pointer by character with Numpad-Left/Right arrows to make sure you're on the highlighted text. You can press Control-Numpad Insert and Delete to hear the foreground and background colors. Press it again before any other keys to hear the color values. * There is also a Set highlight color hot key under Hotkeys, Miscellaneous. But it is not defined by default.
3. Insert-F7 for window properties.
4. Tab down to Auto-determine highlight color and uncheck it.
5. Tab to the Enter highlight attributes button and press space bar.
6. Tab through the edit boxes to the Accept mouse button and press space bar.
7. Control-S to save your settings.
Escape out of the control panel.

Hth,
Tom

Dear All,

I Am currently a JAWS user and have just downloaded a demo copy of Window Eyes
to test.
I Have one particular application that is a bit non-standard and tricky and I
would like to see if I can customise it with Window Eyes.
I Really need to write a script that will do the following:

1. Search for a text string on the screen and then click or double click
the left mouse button if it is found.

2. Change the highlight colour as it is non-standard.
Search for a non-standard graphic that is not labelled, label it and then
assign a hot key or write a script that will search the screen for this graphic
and left click it if it is found.

Does anyone think that this is doable please?

Many thanks in anticipation,
