there might be a way around this: If there was a #pragma to control the segmentname of the data locations on a per-function basis then the user could do a overlaying of variables/slocs "by hand". So the compiler wouldn't improve overlaying but instead the user would... Rather inconvenient but probably better than hitting a hard wall when data memory is exhausted?
