I've been using Jen's File Editor for many Years.
Available in English & German.
You can have Syntax hi-lighting, Auto Indent, View Function list etc.
Also you can add your own buttons to call up external programs like SDCC, 
your Programmer, etc.
A window will display the output messages of these programs.
You can create 'workspaces' unique to each project- the settings & also user 
buttons are unique to each project.
In case of error messages while compiling you can arrange to jump to the 
offending file/line when you double click the error message.
It is a zip file, does not write to registry while installing. You can have 
several copies of JFE (I have one setup gor AVR-GCC & one for SDCC)
Lot of otherr features, but very simple to use & easy to understand. I 
highly recommend it.
