About merging branches. I want to point out that most of the branches are incompatible with the current version of SDL perl internally. The SDL_perl-2.2.0 release which is in SVN right now is based on the major rewrite were we moved to blessed scalars for the entire OO layer, and made lots of internal C api level changes to work with that.
If you have a branch of the 1.x.x tree please look at the functionality you added, and then port it to the new idiom. These trees can not be merged for the most part and need to be ported. That said I am going to only push releases from SVN, any code in someone else's repository will not make it into the main release. You are more than welcome to checkout the trees, edit the code and submit your patches. Please send me an email telling me that you've done so. When I get a chance to review your changes I'll push a new minor or patch release out based on what you changed. SDL_perl-2.x.x is the current development tree, and it is what is currently in CPAN.
