FYI, San Diego Permaculturists, don't miss the grand opening of the Friends
Center this weekend. It's a great example of permaculture in action, from the
collaborative effort among organizations that provides its foundation, to the
strawbale building with its sustainable materials, and the edible garden that
surrounds it.

John Kaizan Neptune is a master of the shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute)
and well-known in Japan. This California native is also an accomplished jazz
artist and composer who has gained respect in both the East and West for his
versatile and technically sophisticated melting pot of sounds.
East West was formed in 2005 as a blend of artists, talent, and cultures.
With a unique instrumental combination, East West offers a fresh, dynamic sound
that is a new take on jazz standards, traditional melodies and original
compositions. Reiko Obata, of East West, is one of the leading American koto
players. A native Californian, she studied under masters in the U.S. and Japan.
Her music has been featured on radio and in film and live theatre, and she has
