All right, dammit, you're all wrong. I heard it straight from William's mouth: "5/4" was supposed to be "54." No allusions to time signatures or any notorious political events. It was intended to be just as random as "7," "8," "47," "48," you get the idea. I swear to God, that's what he said. I tend to believe him. If it was supposed to be a reference to the time signature, the guys probably would have called it "5/4 With a 3/4 Chorus," because they're pretty into the technical aspects of their music.
