Greetings. That was a very polite and eloquent rebuttal. Please allow me
to explain my opinions of JTB:
This list has been around for a long time. I've had my ups and downs with
it just as I'm sure many people who've spent any amount of time with this
list have. Several times (most notably almost a year ago on the old list)
JTB has come up here and discussions have abounded. This is simply a
Sunny Day list and when I recieved so many posts all gaga about a non-SDRE
band I got a little fed up. JTB threads have come and gone. It's nothing
new here. There might have been a time when I'd have liked to have heard
their music, but all the talk of them by this list in the past makes me
shudder at the sight of their name. It's sad, but it's a simple
psychological response.
Now, I don't want to hinder anybody's abilities to exercise freedom of
speech, but this exercise should be done in it's proper medium. I assume
JTB could be considered "emo" and they certainly aren't considered to be
"Sunny Day Real Estate." Why not discuss that band on the emo list? Many
people from this list subscribe to the Emo list (the original Emo list was
actually created as offspring of this list to discuss non-SDRE issues). I
point this out to circumvent any argument validating an attempt to reach a
certain audience specific to this list.
Also, this email list should not be viewed as a room of any sort. Think
of it instead as a Bulletin Board. A place for relevant notices and news
to be posted. This list is method of informing its subscribers of
breaking news and other SDRE tidbits. It is open so that people from all
over the place can post news that they may have heard of.
Chat rooms are available via IRC. Anthony Schmidt runs an IRC channel at
#SDRE and he welcomes non-SDRE discussion there.
Many subscribers (myself included) do not desire constant activity here.
I'm perfectly happy that I don't get 50 emails a day from this list.
I've said all I believe that needs to be posted publicly. I'd be more
than happy to discuss this further privately or even set up a time on the
SDRE IRC channel. I think it would be a good thing for those of you who
think of me as an evil dictator to get to know me a little better - this
could be achieved on the #SDRE channel sometime. I've chatted with many
people who I'd scolded brashly for bad posts and great things came out of
the chat. These arguments are often caused by misunderstandings between
the lister and myself, the administrator. I invite private replies.
