"whoa! just saw those results....I feel old at the ripe old age of 25!!!"
well I might as well introduce myself. I've been on this list for like 3
weeks and haven't said anything. I'm Phil.. I'm 16 and I've been listening
to Sunny Day since I was 13 or 14.
Umm..I play guitar, drums and bass and here are some of the bands I like:
Nirvana, Sunny Day Real Estate, Triple Fast Action, Pave the Rocket, Jimmy
Eat World (who im going to see tomorrow..hopefully it's 18+ but I've got a
way in) Cross My Heart, Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill, The Melvins, Mudhoney,
Radiohead, Portishead, L7, Muckafurgason, Sonic Youth, Fugazi, Fluffy, Local
H, Fig Dish, Verbena, REM, Veruca Salt, Jesus Lizard, Sex Pistols, Sebadoh
and there's a few others I'm probably forgetting.
Do any of you like any Deep Elm bands? Pop Unknown, Planes Mistaken for
Stars ect.. that label is probably my favorite label (like half the bands I
mentioned have something to do with them) they have alot of good bands so
check them out. Also the label was kinda inspired by SDRE's Diary. Here's
what John Szuch (deep elm head honcho) said about it or whatever:
"The final motivation to start Deep Elm came in late 1994 while I was
listening to Sunny Day Real Estate's "Diary" on a plane. I guess I was in an
emotional state. Well, from the first riff that record had a tremendous
impact on me. I can't describe what happened. It was like a religious
experience or something. Sometimes music just speaks to you. At that point I
knew I wanted to help struggling indie bands release and promote their
music. I had absolutely no background in music except for being a disc
jockey at my college radio station for three years. So I had to learn
everything about the music business on my own from the ground up. You see, I
am addicted to music, literally obsessed. Especially music that is
emotionally powerful. Sometimes I NEED to listen to something I have on my
mind. Yet I couldn't write a song to save the world - it's totally foreign
to me. And that's what blows my mind about music. It's a mystery to me how
someone can take a few notes, arrange a song and write lyrics, perform it
and impact me. I have tremendous respect for songwriters and musicians
because they do something that I cannot possibly fathom. Deep Elm is my way
of being involved."
The first SDRE song I ever heard was In Circles..it completely changed my
life. I just thought it was like the greatest thing I've heard in my life.
i apologize if i wrote too much.
