To add to the swarm of opinions of the July 4th show...
Sunny Day was great, but definitely frustrated by the fact that they weren't
using they're own equipment. (anyone know why? Sonic Youth's van was
stolen the night before, causing them to play with borrowed equipment...
not sure why SDRE did. They said they "left it at home") Despite the
frustrations, In Circles, Song About an Angel and The Prophet all sounded
remarkably strong. But some of the other songs fell short of their usual
power.
Get-Up Kids were loud and fun. Sleater-Kinney was fun. Rocket From the
Crypt was a bit disappointing, I thought.
>i thought the
>boredoms sucked, what did you guys
Well, the Boredoms is one of my favorite live bands ever. They're
definitely an aquired taste, though. They haven't played in LA in five
years, so I was pretty damn excited to see them. Their show has changed a
lot since back then, but I thought they were still pretty intense (at least
if you were watching from close to the stage.) If you weren't into it or
paying much attention, they probably sounded just like noise, though. But
they actually describe their music as Noise, so that's probably the point...
Oh, and the two songs I caught by Looper after SDRE finished totally rocked
my world. But I simply couldn't miss Sunny Day... oh, well.
