Greetings listers. I just came up with a nice little analogy that I'd
like to share with you all. See, when I step in and try to promote a
little restraint and try to get things "back on track" here I often get
nice little responses like these from some SDRE-l members:
"Bite me. People like other music, not just Sunny Day Real Estate."
and
"Fuck you, i'll talk about whatever I damn well please..."
and
"Who are you to be infringing on my rights"
etc etc
Well, it's kinda like this (and here's the analogy):
Let's say you're a Catholic in Ireland and you're at church and you're
praying and minding your own business when a Protestant worshipper walks
into your Catholic church and starts preaching about Protestant ways. I
mean, the Protestant has every right to do so, but does that make it
*right*? Is that considerate? Think about it in terms of this SDRE list:
I'm not going to tell you what you are to listen to or what you are to
speak about in the real world. I'm not infringing on any rights. But I
am saying that there are appropriate venues for specific things. This
just happens to be a venue dedicated to SDRE. If you want to talk to
others about Far or Promise Ring, there are places to do just that.
Please don't discuss non-SDRE things here, that's all I ask.
ps. you can switch around Protestant/Catholic up there, I was just setting
an example. Hell, you could put "progress/politics" up there for all I
care. Just please don't go IRA on me :)
