Well, first off, you're going to have to find a suitable donor
tape.(ie. one with screws) Then get a fine toothed jewelers saw or small
hacksaw and bit by bit cut through the casing, taking care not to rub the
tape inside. Break off little chips if you have to. When you've freed the
tape and ducked the flying spring which may shoot out, unscrew the donor
tape, watching out for that spring again, and respool the old tape into
the new case, replace the spring, and sew..er...screw it closed.
No guarantee this will work but sometimes it does. What have you
got to lose, you can't play it like it is now.
I'm assuming you meant video tape. If not, follow the same
instructions, but omit the spring part.
