I agree with your point that listening to Sunny Day does not mean we are any
smarter than those who do not. I was introduced to Sunny Day only about a
year ago. I don't consider myself to have been less intelligent in my
pre-Sunny Day days.
However, the comment that there are "no masses" doesn't seem correct. As
nice as it would be if all people would think for themselves, it doesn't
always happen that way. While there are plenty of people who listen to Back
Street Boys because they like their music, I have seen many examples of
people who like them simply because they are popular. I have heard people
around me say "I used to like them, but they are so unpopular now," (this
was often a comment referring to New Kids on the Block) one too many times
to believe that there is no such thing as the "masses." There are,
unfortunately, many people who like what is popular and are afraid to like
anything that might brand them as "uncool." Sadly, the masses are alive and
thriving.

I'll be there all 5 days (Thurs = REM :). I'm looking forward to Queens of
the Stone Age and Sonic Youth. I missed Sunny Day last year, unfortunately.
I will also be staying as far away from Everlast as is possible (I apologize
to any of you who like him).
Tara
PS-I'm new to the list, so hello everyone!
