I read Jenn's email to the list about boots today. I have to say I
wholeheartedly agree with her on pretty much every point she makes. That's
why I think some bands are starting to let fans tape the shows for their
own personal use, without harassing people at the venue's entrance. I,
personally, am not a huge fan of live CDs/bootlegs (I'll admit, I have
yet to buy the SDRE live) because there's so much more to a live
performance than the music. Don't get me wrong, the music drives the
entire atmosphere...but there's something to be said for standing there
and having your mind blown away by an incredible artist. As for comments
made about shoving and moshing that goes on shows, I can understand
people's gripes, but you have to understand that everyone wants to enjoy
the music in the own fashion. Just because someone's moshing doesn't mean
that they're some sort of testostorone-monkey; music affects everyone
differently. I also listen to metal, and I go to a lot of metal shows. If
the crowd isn't moving around at metal shows, then you can tell the band
is not moving the crowd the way they should. If you ever go to a Fear
Factory show, even the people (self often included) who stand to the side
so as to avoid getting moshed very rarely stand still. They move around
and get into the music. Obivously, SDRE or similiar artists don't inflict
the same emotion on their listeners, so maybe moshing is little ridicilous
at these shows...but everyone should enjoy themselves. That's what is
important. These comments seem to be in line with a certain degree of
elitism that I've noticed on this list to begin with, so they don't shock
me. Wake up people, you're no better for the music you listen to. It may
make your life better, but it's doesn't make you any better. I know this
doesn't apply to all of us, but there are some who it does apply to. Oh
well, to end this on an up note, I'd like to say I'm psyched, cause I'm
going to two shows this week: Fountains of Wayne, at the Rutgers College
Student Center, and fugazi at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia...so
see you all round.

Later,
Paul

P.S. I know you all hate me know, that's okay ;)
