i'll admit off the top that i'm a big fan of nate's bass playing, and also 
that i don't know who's heard what from each of them. all i'm gonna say is 
that before ya judge the two against each other, there's some stuff of joe's 
ya need to hear, if you haven't already. go pick up joe's "solo" album 
"Skyward", and/or some old Sky Cries Mary stuff. he of course played in The 
Posies as well, but i don't think he had the chance to really do the kind of 
bass playing he's capable of, simply because the music didn't really call 
for it. anyways, my point basically is his bass playing on the old SCM stuff 
and his "solo" stuff is really really good, much more a true example of what 
he can do than the stuff he did live with SDRE. bottom line is, both he and 
nate are incredible bass players. check out some of that old stuff from joe, 
and you'll see he too is very capable of putting powerful basslines 
together. it's just harder to do that when you're playing someone else's 
lines is all. anyways, this is already longer than i wanted it to be so i'll 
leave it at that.
