I don't know if a response to the nitpick was really intended, but i
would have to say that The Ocean is very definite 6/8 timing as the
strongest beat occurs every 6 beats and there is an intermediate less
strong (but still strong) beat every other 6 beats.  As far as "one" it
definitely starts off in a compound beat (you could argue 3/4, 6/8 or
12/8 although i think it's a little fast to be considered 3/4 and think
it seem to often change after a two beat interval so i'd argue 6/8) and
then when the background drops away leaving Jeremy and guitar on the
lyrics "so it's only..." the song switches to 4/4 until the return of
the lyric "everything and everyone..."  THen back to 6/8.  This shift
repeats and it then stays in 6/8 for the rest of the song.
