i must say, chris ryan is right on. and thanks for having the balls to
stand up to the list.

i've listened to the whole thing a number of times, and it just doesn't do
it for me. i'm sure it will grow on me, like all of their albums have, but
the sound that IS sunny day is gone.

my friend mark lynn-baker (tv's larry appleton) helped me out with some
inspiring words, and he's dead on. sunny day IS big powerful guitars, with
that gritty edge, massive bass lines, and ridiculously perfect drumming.
and jeremy. but not ALL jeremy. which is what the new album is. i mean,
for god's sakes, a lot of the time dan is just playing the melody behind
jeremy as he sings it. sunny day IS diary and lp2. and they even still had
it with how it feels. but sunny day's sound IS one of unproduction; it
loses all its glory when produced, as the new album proves. sure each
successive album was more and more produced, but it never got out of hand
until the rising tide. they've just taken it too far.

i'm not saying its a bad album. the songs are intelligent and well written
(musically at least. i must say that most of the lyrics leave much to be
desired).
the talent is obviously still there, and the song writing skills may have
improved in theory. but its just not sunny day.

i must say, i probably would not buy this album if it wasn't them. but i
will. and i will go see them live. and i DO hope they play mostly old
stuff.

later.

all right. first off, nobody should apologize for not liking any song
that sunny day real estate does. like it or don't like it, you don't have
any obligation to like it just because it's them.

on that note, i'm very disappointed with what i've heard of the new
album. i guess that puts me in the minority on this list, but i really don't
like it. they can grow or whatever, that's cool, but this new album sounds
like it wouldn't be out of place on mainstream alternative radio. snibe and
one seem like they would fit right in. and i think some of the words are
really bad and unoriginal too, especially in the chorus of one. i just don't
hear any more of the feeling and uniqueness that made me like sunny day in
the first place.

well that's my opinion. see ya. chris
