Well, since everyone else has decided to play musical critic, I
might as well too.

This album is definitely more mature. I think most people will
agree to that. The question is, is "mature" better? I think
Diary and LP2 were well-produced albums, so saying HIFTBSO and
TRT are so much more produced is kinda deceiving. The thing is,
the first two albums were well-produced, but it was the band
messing around. They were so innovative because their songs had
weird riffs and weirder lyrics. For example, Jeremy wrote a song
about his stuffed monkey, then named it "J'Nuh" after the guitar
sound later in the song. Jeremy and Dan admitted to making up
the name "Astiocles" in "The Blankets were the Stairs" for the
purpose of the song. And the term "suedescars"??? This is what
made SDRE so cool: Their youth and "naivete" about music and
popularity. Their two newer albums are much more "professional",
they don't seem to have any of those qualities of the younger
albums. I don't know if that's because they are older and a
little more jaded about music, or if they just wanted to take a
different approach to music. I love the new album, and I'll buy
it the day it comes out. After all, compared to just about all
of the other drivel out there, TRT is so much better. However,
it just doesn't come across as SDRE's best stuff to me because
of the reasons I mentioned.

Peace out,
Morelli
