I tested my server's copy of Nginx for the m4v filetype. Since it wasn't in the mime.types file it came up as application/octet-stream. I added the proper filename and type (video/mp4) to the mime.types file, restarted Nginx and the mime-type showed up properly, as well as started playing in the browser.
I'm running version 0.5.26, while the podcast site is on 0.5.24, though I don't think that'll cause any errors. If the above doesn't work let me know, as I'd like to get this fixed.
