It's because your focus on the problem prevents your mind wandering widely enough to encounter the cause. Once you've emailed the group, you relax a bit and you can take in the bigger picture. You can sometimes accomplish the same thing by taking a break, going into a different room to remove all triggers that put your focus on the details and letting your mind wander over the whole setup. For big problems, sleep on it or take a shower. I have my best ideas in the shower when I'm most relaxed; those ideas are almost always a solution to some problem, sometimes mine, sometimes the world's.
