I took computer science in college with the original, one-man author of REALbasic. One of the most gifted programmers you'll ever meet. And REALbasic is still unique: the only high-level language that compiles native code desktop apps on Mac, Windows and Linux.
He's finally at it again. His new project, icodemac, is an IDE and framework for application development in Javascript. This means he's leveraging the Spidermonkey JS engine, so he can focus on the ide and framework. Plus, JS is a pretty fine language, and Spidermonkey is *fast*. He has beta IDE and framework running on the Mac. He stated at one point that he intends for icodemac apps to run in the browser. I asked him about Windows and Linux, and he said: Well let's just say I have a list of target platforms which includes all of the ones you have mentioned, plus a few more that are also compelling. Yesterday, he said: and I've got one of the other target platforms up and going in proof of concept now: iCode for iPhone He has also said that he is planning on making the framework, but not the IDE, open source. So if it doesn't run on your platform of choice, someone else can make it do so. I am pretty excited about this project. Develop apps that run *anywhere* from a single code base in a nice language. <http://icodemac.com> --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ SD Ruby mailing list [email protected] http://groups.google.com/group/sdruby -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
