If you're going with Ubuntu go with HardyHeron. Its the most current one that 
is LTS (Long Term Support, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LTS) and you want the long 
term support for 5 years worth of security fixes.  

The next LTS release will be LucidLynx, released in April 2010.
