Hi Kevin,
  There are a ton of monitoring and performance stat tools out there.
Monit and Munin make a nice simple pair to get started with.  Nagios
is a favorite of quite a few of the Linux guys I chat with.  The
problem is that there really are not a lot of solutions that are as
low effort as Scout and New Relic.  The only real downsides to those
are they have gotten significantly expensive.
