Recaptcha is awesome. It lives in the cloud so it doesn't touch your
database and it is doing humanity a service by digitizing books.

This is what I used recently on a Rails2 project. I don't see why it
wouldn't also work in Rails 3 because it is mostly just an html widget with
some helpers: http://hwork.org/2009/03/08/recaptcha-on-rails/
