Hi Cameron, I want to echo what Ian said. Adjusted for cost of living, pay here is competitive. I’ve been working in Rails and Ruby here since 2005 w/o any problems finding work or clients.

Employers here are generally pragmatic and focused on building useful and profitable businesses with real business plans and fewer exit strategies.
