Hey Rebecca,

The one piece of advice I always try to give folks starting out with
Ruby is *how* to look for gems. Ruby Toolbox[1] is a really helpful
tool. It groups gems by types of functionality, and it also gives you an
idea of which gems for a given need are most popular and actively-
maintained. So when I know I need a gem for something but don't know
which gem I should use, I head over there to see what the top options
are. Hope this helps!
