Hello everyone,

I've never come to the SD Ruby meetup, but I plan to. Part of why I've not
yet is because this list seems Rails dominated, and while I respect Rails
-- I cannot go down that road.

Last year I mentored in Google Summer of Code, alongside the Ruby Language
organization administrator and went to the Mentor Summit as a delegate from
Ruby.

Behind the scenes of that, I've been the primary maintainer of Celluloid
for a while now, taking over from the ( still involved and active )
original author.

>From a "pure Ruby" perspective, I'm wondering -- does anyone want to mentor
a student for 1-3 hours per week, during the Summer?

Right now there is an established Ruby on Rails organization -- so if
that's your whole reality and you just love it and hooray for your BFF
Rails, then please -- do mentor there.

But if you want to branch out, or if you are multi-dimensional already --
whether you know Celluloid already or not -- would you consider mentoring
in the Celluloid world?

If not, I believe Ruby Language is going to have a mentoring organization
again this year -- so again, do mentor there! But if you want to know
Celluloid, indulge me:

I'm prepared to host a crash-course on Celluloid at my lab in Carlsbad, for
a maximum of 4 people at a time. After that, if you already know Ruby, you
will be set to mentor. The main thing here is mentoring itself, which you
will be glad you did.

Also, quite apart from GSoC preparations, there's an opportunity coming in
April ( which is about when I'd be willing to host crash courses too, btw )
to meet another major contributor to Celluloid::ZMQ and hack on Celluloid
itself.

If anything I'm saying here interests you, please contact me:
[email protected] ... or reply to this thread if everyone on the list
ought to hear what you have to say to my mock passive aggression toward
Rails.

Have a great day out there //
