Hi Leon and Richie, Here's my take on the SD tech community as someone who's been in it for ~6 years on been on the market a few times during that. The tech scene here (specifically the web-ish tech scene, government contractors are a whole different story) is small but solid. Which is to say that there aren't a huge number of companies or developers doing Rails, but there are a decent number, many with very solid businesses, and the market isn't flooded either. Jobs definitely exist, but sometimes you might have to be patient and network for a month or so before the right thing comes along. And, a lot of the jobs never bubble up to places like Indeed. This group is a great resource, and beyond that you might have to do some additional legwork to dig up the jobs that are available but not heavily advertised.
I think the San Diego market is a little tougher, unfortunately, for junior devs. The LEARN folks are working on fixing this, but for the moment there are often more openings for senior positions that junior ones.
