Hi everyone,

As many of you may have heard Amazon has made a huge bet by releasing a number of utility/platform services. One of these is called Simple Storage Service (S3). Try to imagine a web service with an API that allows you to store, retrieve, and delete any amount of data you would like. Basically, it's like electricity for web hosting, the more you use the more you pay.

There was an initial ruby library released for this (S3.rb) which I wasn't particularly impressed with, but as of a couple days ago there is a new gem out (net-amazon-s3.rb). I would like to show everyone what this service is all like, how net-amazon-s3 works, and how to integrate it into your rails apps. I'm already using it for one of my projects, so I'd love to share it with you guys.

Let me know what you guys think about this...

P.S.
You can find S3 here http://www.amazon.com/gp/browse.html?node=16427261.

P.P.S
Also, Kevin Clark, sd.rb's beloved founder works for Powerset, an anticipated natural language search engine startup. They have released a statement saying they will be using another of Amazon's new services called Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud. Basically, instead of buying scalable unlimited storage (S3) per GB, you're buying unlimited computing power per Hour. Check it out, http:// www.amazon.com/gp/browse.html?node=201590011.
